University of NC – Chapel Hill Licensure Areas Offered:
Program Highlights: The UNC-Chapel Hill NC TEACH is highly regarded by program participants and the schools and students they serve. Our program alums have been recognized by students as First Year Teacher of the Year, by peers as Teacher of the Year, by administrators with appointments as department chairs and have achieved National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. UNC-CH is one of four universities hosting the NC TEACH II program for participants interested in teaching in high-need schools. Research Findings: A study conducted in 2005 revealed that 85.9% of all NC Teach participants in the first four UNC-Chapel Hill cohorts persisted throughout their induction year. The findings indicated that persistence was attributed to three variables: individual determination, job satisfaction, and presence of extensive support networks at home, through their employer and individual school, and the UNC-CH program. Students credited the curriculum, instructors, affiliation with the university and collegiality of the cohorts as factors contributing to their success (Smith, 2005, p. 84). Estimated Program Cost: Financial Aid: Participants who qualify for NC TEACH II will receive a $1,000 stipend and a $2000 technology allowance. UNC-Chapel Hill's NC TEACH courses qualify for additional tuition support when employed by North Carolina Model Teacher Education Consortium partnering school systems.
