Initially funded from Title II of the Higher Education Act, it is The program recruits, prepares, advises, and supports highly skilled mid-career professionals who seek to enter the teaching profession. A wide variety of subject and age level licensure areas are available for participants to pursue at our 12 host university campuses. Participants may opt for one of three delivery models: face to face, completely online, or a blended model. NC TEACH is offered on alternate schedules (daytime during summers or evenings and weekends) and participants may begin their program in the summer, fall, winter, or spring, depending upon the host university campus. While various delivery models exist, all program components endeavor to best prepare mid-career professionals for their new career in teaching. All are designed with the goal to better accommodate adults who may wish to begin their training while maintaining current jobs, who may be planning a career change, or who desire to attend the program while teaching full time. Basic NC TEACH program components include:
Various methods of instruction are used during the orientation and pre-service program including interactive multimedia, case studies, peer coaching and teaching, and other small group activities. Class instructors are either master teachers or university faculty members with the expertise in all topics covered in the NC TEACH curriculum. NC TEACH is unique in that it is a comprehensive, cohort-based program offering support and advisement that begins with the recruitment of the prospective teacher and extends through all program courses, activities and the licensure process. Participants do not “just take a bunch of courses”, but rather they participate in a supportive university-based learning community around a comprehensive, high quality series of modules/courses, activities, and support that are appropriate to the development of a beginning teacher through his/her first and second year in the classroom. The name NC TEACH is strongly branded, and teachers prepared through the program are highly respected by school administrators and other educators across North Carolina. We look forward to receiving your application to the NC TEACH program! |
