Program Highlights:
Lenoir-Rhyne College is the only NC TEACH site at a private college. Lenoir-Rhyne is a co-educational, private liberal arts institution founded in 1891. It is located in Hickory, North Carolina, a town of 37,000 in the western part of the state. Lenoir-Rhyne enrolls approximately 1,600 students from across the country and around the world. Participants in the NC TEACH program at Lenoir-Rhyne College receive one-on-one counseling and support throughout the program. The small size of the college ensures personal and individualized attention for each NCTEACHer. The NC TEACH program at Lenoir-Rhyne is an integral part of the School of Education. Program participants are challenged as thinkers and analyzers; NC TEACH participants become reflective practitioners.
The program strives to develop thinking, reflective educators who have knowledge of self, content knowledge, knowledge about human development, an awareness of school and society, and strategies and approaches to use with students. In the summer institute, professors and public school practitioners prepare students for a successful entry into the public school classroom. The seminar classes and internships throughout the fall and spring semesters continue to provide support and assistance and to develop strategies and skills for the professional educators during their first year in the classroom. Teachers who have completed the NC TEACH program continue to draw support from the instructors and fellow participants as well as to offer support and information to new participants. Candidates for NC TEACH have an opportunity in their interviews to talk with program instructors and past participants.
