Advisement

Advisement begins from the very first time you contact NC TEACH—either by email, by phone, or at an information session. Our advisement takes the form of helping you to figure out if the NC TEACH program or its Affiliate programs are right for you at this time.  We will discuss what your educational background is, what you are hoping to teach, discuss our program options, and help find the best match for you.  If NC TEACH is not the right fit for you; we will try and direct you to other resources.

At the host university level you will receive similar guidance and the added layer of transcript evaluation that is detailed below.  Your host university coordinator and his or her team are eager to get you on the path to becoming a teacher in North Carolina.

It is important to have some idea of what you would be qualified to teach, based on your Bachelors degree, a minor, graduate or even an Associates degree that you may have earned before your Bachelors. If you are not interested in an area related to your degree there may be other options, but these licensure options may require more content coursework for you.

Individualized Program Plan of Study

Before or during the NC TEACH orientation and pre-service program, your host university develops an individualized program plan of study (IPP) for you based upon an analysis of your transcipts.  If you are deficient in content courses for your licensure area, these courses will be listed on your IPP.  When you successfully complete the NC TEACH orientation and pre-service program, fall and spring semester courses (or the equivalent) have passed the PRAXIS content examination in your licensure area, have no deficiencies in content courses, and have met all of the requirements as stipulated by the NC Department of Public Instruction, you are recommended for a Standard Professional 1 License to teach in North Carolina.
